Oce Pilot - Printer and Copier

As of yesterday, the pilot project with the new copier and printer in the center of the library has begun. Printing is only for the six computers in the Igloo. In order to encourage people to use the system, we can give a dollar credit using the Pharos Remote application on the reference computers.

SimHouston Update

• SimHouston software on STE computers is not functional any longer
• E-mail and saved files can be accessed through: http://www.simdesk.com/
• User needs to log in with full e-mail address
• Word processor and spreadsheet program can not be accessed

As an alternative we can suggest that folks who need to type documents or create spreadsheets check out a laptop. We do have disks available for 1$ so that they can save their work. As for printing, until there is another solution we can allow them to bring their disks to the desk and give them complimentary copies within reason. Please do not advertise this but let's offer it to anyone who finds themselves in a real bind over the SH problems.

Holds at the Reference Desk

Please avoid working on holds while working at the reference desk. I have received a few customer comments about how they find it unprofessional and difficult to work with staff when there are piles of books on the desk. Also, we continue to have a problem keeping these accurately labelled. In the end, I feel that the time saved is not worth the problems in customer service and accuracy. So, for the time being, please avoid working on holds or anything that involves wheeling out a cart or bins full of books.
