Passport Day is next Saturday, March 9th.
We received some bad information from the passport office saying we could waive expedite fees that day. That is not true.

Staff Meeting 02/26/2013
Good afternoon,
Here are the points we went over this morning during our meeting:
Here are the points we went over this morning during our meeting:
- Expectation is to have all books shelved each day before we open. Not always possible, but strive to reach this goal.
- Only bookdrop/others and money in the first hour, other than that everyone on shelving.
- If everyone brings their "A game" in the early morning hours, it will make it exponentially easier for us down the homestretch.
- Try to really focus in on the Smart Money and Telecheck exchanges. We have had issues there, me included.
- Try your best to arrive at the desk on time when relieving your co-workers
- Give yourself enough lead time to finish up tasks before your lunch hour, break, desk, etc.
- All of these little things add up to create a more pleasant work environment for the entire staff.
- I want everyone to have fun here and I want us to be the preeminent library in the city. I think we can achieve both of those goals with the staff we have.
- With subs, we need to all chip in to try and mold them into the type of worker we need here.
- If you see them making mistakes, subtlety is key in trying to re-direct them into the proper way of doing things.
Let's keep up the good work and do not hesitate to come to me with concerns or suggestions.

Kronos
I know we are having trouble checking our timecards in Kronos because of some Java updates.
Carol Wu found a way around it.
If you go to the quick time stamp and log in with your credentials, but instead of clicking quick time stamp, just click the login button. Then from there go to the home link on the right side of the page and then you can view your timecard from there.
Thank you Carol for this tip.

Damaged Items Found in Bookdrop
Procedure when an item found in bookdrop is damaged.
1. Determine if item is damaged beyond normal wear and tear. If the item is a 5 year old romance novel with a couple dog-eared pages and light creasing associated with normal reading, the item would not be charged to patron. If the item has animal bite marks or is dripping with syrup, then we would charge to item.
2. If item is judged to be damage due to normal wear and tear, check the item in and place on discard shelf.
3. If the item has damage that is not normal, leave the item checked out to patron. Make contact with patron on the telephone. Inform the patron that the item was returned in a condition that is unserviceable and the item will be charged to the account. If the call goes to voicemail, please leave a message. If the number is long distance please refer the matter to Patrick/Renee/Tim.
4. As with all cases, place a note in the account.
Examples:
2-12-13; OLD YELLER DVD 334770000 WAS RETURNED IN BOOKDROP WITH SEVERE WATER DAMAGE. PATRON WAS NOTIFIED BY TELEPHONE. ITEM BILLED TO ACCOUNT. ITEM ON REPAIR SHELF FOR INSPECTION. STE/TS
2-12-13; HUNGER GAMES 3347770000 WAS RETURNED IN BOOKDROP WITH ANIMAL BITE MARKS. ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT PATRON BY TELEPHONE AND THERE WAS NO ANSWER AND NO VOICEMAIL. ITEM ON REPAIR SHELF FOR INSPECTION. STE/TS
5. After placing the appropriate note, print the patron account and wrap the item with it. Place the item on the repair shelf. There is a special shelf with a label for these items that are still on patron accounts.
The Library cannot hold a patron responsible if these procedures are not followed.
Please ask me if you have any questions.
Tim
New Procedure
I have made a spreadsheet to record items we receive that belong to other systems. So now, if you get an item that is for another system, please record the information in this spreadsheet. I have provided the link in the Stella Link Staff box to the right. This way, we don't have to go all the way to the back to determine if the customer turned in the item to us. If the book has been sent to Central, Tim will record the date. So, if there is no date, it should still be in the back on the shelf above the Problem AV materials.
Thanks,
Renee

Tax Forms
We are starting to get more tax forms.
They are going to be located in the corner next to the public printer/copier machine.
Some of the extras could be in the drawers or cabinets under the silver counter.
