Manager's Circulation Report Analysis

Marcos shared the Manager's Circulation report for May with the staff, but I thought I'd give you a bit of analysis of the numbers, there, from a Stella point of view.

Total circulation:
13% of NL Total
10% of System total
4000 above Kendall, 6000 above Central

Juvenile Circulation
15% of NL JUV
14% of system JUV
1500 above Kendall, 10000 above Alief, 12000 above Central

YA Circulation
10% of NL YA
9% of system YA
1050 BEHIND Central, 80 ahead of Alief, 300 ahead of Kendall

ADU Circulation
11% of NL ADU
9.8% of system ADU
5000 BEHIND Central, but 3000 in front of Kendall and 4000 in front of Looscan (6000 in front of Alief)

Holds:
15% of NL total Holds
13.9% of System total Holds
1500 more than Kendall, 1700 more than Central

When you look at Stella Link's numbers, we are by far the busiest library. We don't lead in computers, but we are the system-wide first in Overall Circulation, Juvenile Circulation and Express Check numbers (we're tied with SWC at 99%), and behind only Central in YA and Adult circulation. If ten books are checked out in HPL, one of them came from Stella Link. If 20 Juvenile books are checked out in the city, then 3 of them came from Stella Link. We checked out TEN THOUSAND more Juvenile books than Alief, and TWELVE THOUSAND more than Central. Stella Link drives HPL circulation, and we should give ourselves a pat on the back for kicking assets and taking names (for MyLink card registrations, a stat I would LOVE to see).

Congratulations, folks.

RFID Tagging Quick Reference

0) Sort material by type... Books or CDs (including DVDs)... and condition (i.e. not shack-nasty; if you wouldn't check it out because of damage, set it to the side for staff to evaluate). Do not tag magazines; those will be handled by our serials staff member (right now, Le'Derius).

1) Open the RFID tagging program.

2) Always choose the "Single Item" option.

3) Choose the item type you're working with; Books or CD/DVD. If it is not a book and only a book, it is a CD/DVD.

4) Scan the book to see if there is an existing RFID tag. If the words "Tag Information" are highlighted, then there is a tag, and you do not need to apply another.

5) Place the tag. Ideally, a tag on the book will be inside the back cover, about 1/2" from the spine; you don't need to measure it, but avoid places where it will easy bend when the book is opened for reading. Do not cover any information if possible, but it is better if the tag is easy to find. With CDs and DVDs, place it on the inside of the label insert, not on the case. We may switch  out cases, but label inserts stay with us.

6) Scan the bar code.

7) Place the book on the RFID pad.

8) If the light is green, the book is clean; move on to the next. If it gives you an alert, pay attention and see what needs to be done.

The ideal is that we will tag everything that comes in to us before it goes on our shelves.

STE Collection Management Team Meeting Notes

We touched a lot on Shelving today…

Shelving: please continue to focus upon shelving from bins on the children’s side of Bertha. Additionally take any opportunities to broaden a Volunteer’s knowledge.

Receiving Transit: when processing Holds use receiving transit and not discharge for wrapping items. Receiving Transit notifies patrons of availability.

Magazines: magazines having the red stripe need to be tagged. L. Seay will tag magazines. Flimsys are to go to the flimsy bin and not the magazine bin.

Intransit vs. Discharge: when is a patron notified of available items? Mo will do a test to determine that among other things, such as Bertha’s impact.

Shelving: our team also needs to focus upon the blue bins and the shelving of that material/collections.

Shelving: please, no items atop Bertha’s plastic…empty bins onto a cart.

Shelving: fill the top shelf of a cart and use the bottom shelves to sort.

Outgoing Delivery Boxes: please fill outgoing boxes 70-80%. Those boxes behind the delivery bins can be stacked 6 high. Boxes stacked in other areas can only be stacked 5 high.

Upcoming Project: During July this bldg. can fill a maximum of 50 boxes of weeded Juvenile material. Info later…
