Friends Scholarship

Hi,

Friends sponsor a $5,000 scholarship for a library employee who wishes to become a professional librarian through a Master of Library Science program. Applications for the scholarship are being accepted now through May 10. Concept Label Picture Books Have Moved

Picture books with a 123, ABC, Shapes, or Color label are now with the regular Picture Book collection. This should make it easier for staff/volunteers to shelve and easier for our customers to browse.

Computer Use Cards

Hello all.

This is just a brief message to let you know of a change that will be made in your Millennium client in the near future.  The Computer Use card templates that appear in the list of templates you see when you create new cards will be removed.  If you have been accustomed to using these templates to create Computer Use cards, you will need to start using the online templates that are accessed through the staff reference page on the intranet (https://hplnet.hpl.lib.tx.us/reference.html).  If you have been using the online templates to create Computer Use cards, you will not need to adjust your work habits to accommodate the disappearance of the templates from your Millennium client.

Open Enrollment and Raises

Good Afteroon,

Make absolutely certain that you have chosen your benefits during open enrollment.
The deadline is April 14th.

If you do not choose, they will automatically put you in the highest package.

Also, I talked to Gloria in payroll.
She said the raises are across the board.  Everyone will be getting the 3% raise according to her.

HOPE Raise

From an e-mail we received today:

HOPE works tirelessly for the civilian portion of the municipal workforce it represents. Due to the union's good-faith negotiations, civilian city employees will receive a 3% across-the-board pay increase, effective July 1, 2013. This raise would have been only 2% had it not been for a clause in the contract HOPE negotiated two years ago that allowed for an extra 1% if our economy achieved a specific performance threshold. HOPE was willing to work with the administration to tie employee pay to our improving economy. As a result, civilian employees will see an extra 3% added to their paychecks this summer.

New Vision and Mission Statement - Learn It

TexShare Cards

I received a call from the Circulation Department that they have received at least three TexShare Applications from Stella Link for patrons that do not meet the basic requirements.

Please review this list before giving out or accepting an application.

1. Resident of the City of Houston (not Bellaire, Pearland, or West University).

2. Must have an HPL account that was created at least 6 months ago (Do not give an application to a patron who has not had an account for this period of time).

3. The account must not be expired, have fines, be in collection, or have any blocks on the account.

If a patron asks about the TexShare program, please ask for their HPL Card first and review it. If they do not meet the above requirements, they cannot get a TexShare Card. Do not even give out or receive an application if these requirements are not met.
