We have 2 flash drives in the reference desk. ... The public can borrow these, we need keys or an ID or something that they will have come back to the desk to get!

ok when you save on the flash drive save on the G: NOT the U3 drive, that is the one i kept on trying to save to.

so they are not all that easy, you will probably have to show the patron how to use it.

FREE MFAH!!!!!!!!!!

So, ah, any of you guys want to go to the MFAH, FREE, for family fun day in the bus?? eh.. FREE.. eh??? it will be fun...?? November 4th 1:30, bus leaves here, and will return at 4:30!

The Katrina ( National Business Services Alliance) people sent out a little bit of a confusing letter to the people who are going to use their services. Pershing Badge file

There is a file labeled Badges along with the other notebooks on the Reference Desk. This is where we will be putting confiscated school badges. There is also a sheet in the file that will be filled out by the person who takes the badges over to the school in the mornings. This sheet should stay in the file. Thank you.

Heads Up! New Telephone Greeting

I figure since STE is the "Best" Neighborhood Library we should be ahead of the game in all ways possible. A new telephone greeting is being utilized at Central and a few other places before being rolled out for the entire system. I participated in the drafting of the new greeting -- so what's to stop us from getting started now? If you are interested, please let me know and I will review the greeting with you.

Alert!

Please know that there if someone falsely represents him/herself as a HPL employee, we are to contact the police immediately. Specifically, we should be on the alert for someone who claims to be an IT representative and who asks the customers to lift their feet off the ground to allow access to the equipment, etc.

Here are excerpts from the Texas Penal Code that pertains:

Sec. 37.11 IMPERSONATING PUBLIC SERVANT.
(a) A person commits an offense of he: ... impersonates a public servant with intent to induce another to submit to his pretended official authority or to rely on his pretended official acts ...
(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the third degree.

Roaming -- Best Practices

Here are some Best Roaming Practices for the Valiant STE staff:

Roamers will monitor certain areas and stay within those areas to maintain the best control and to avoid crossing paths.

Always offer Choices! The choices are to visit STE for studying (seated at benches and/or tables without moving any furniture), using the computers for research/leisure, or visiting our fabulous Game Lab.

Check the Suspension Log before writing up someone to be sure they do not already have a sheet.

Raised voices are only acceptable, if the noise level prevents one from being heard.

Catch them doing something right AND thank them for it.

Copier Update

Kemo has called in the copy machine problem to IT. The copy machine is not working as of right now. We do have the scanner if there is a life or death need for a copy!

Laptop Consistency

Please for the sake of consistancy, we do not make a list for patrons waiting for laptops. We have to hunt them down and it is very difficult to maintain a list AND keep up with the reference desk.

We only have 2 working laptops??.. ??? 312/362
